As a Computer Science & Multimedia Education Technician, Miles activates the tools and learning pathways required to engage with computer science and multimedia. This means assisting with the design of new CS curriculum, writing tutorials covering spaces and skills, organizing student-led creations such as our (soon to be) official podcast, and delivering PD to help staff master these creative domains.
Miles began film and sound design after university, then in 2015 he moved to Taiwan where he taught for seven years. In that time, he fell in love with using technology to support both learners and fellow teachers. Since university, Miles also studied programming through side projects using Python, React, and machine learning and eventually launched a web service streamlining the feedback writing process for teachers, primarily in the Global South. For the year and a half before joining TPZ, he earned an M. Ed. from Harvard’s Graduate School of Education studying how to best apply learning sciences to the design of educational interventions and products, especially in the realm of computer science education.
Entrepreneurship, to Miles, means most of all being a life-long learner. Likewise, entrepreneurship also means “learning to love the problem”, finding ways to immerse yourself in a problem space so you can clearly see both gaps and opportunities. This can entail frequently talking to experts, users, rapidly prototyping, etc.
In his spare time, Miles loves to read and code. He’s learning to sail right now and dreams of circumnavigating the globe one day.
