Kevin McCaskill, Public School & Vocational Education Advocate, Joins The Possible Zone Board of Directors
The Possible Zone (TPZ), an innovative, tuition-free hands-on entrepreneurship program where young people in Boston prepare for life-long learning and leave ready for careers of the future, is proud to announce that Kevin McCaskill, an educational leader, career and technical education advocate, and workforce champion, has been named the newest member of the TPZ Board of Directors.
“Educating young people is not the role of our schools alone. The Possible Zone actively engages students with the art of doing, learning, and showcasing their talents, which may not manifest themselves during the school day,” Kevin said. “The TPZ team challenges students and gives them opportunities to expand their minds, build confidence, to take appropriate risks, and to learn from challenges and failures. Because TPZ understands youth development, there is an underlying understanding of teaching based on experience, research, best practices, and listening tours. TPZ is a valuable partner to public education and I’m proud to be a part of this work.”
Hundreds of high school students from Boston Public Schools, and a cohort of young adult associates immersed in early career exploration, thrive as they explore changing STEAM technologies in TPZ’s state-of-the-art Innovation Center, and develop valuable social and emotional skills in supportive, tuition-free programming. As a member of the Board of Directors, Kevin is deepening the organization’s thought leadership and networks with educational partners and associations that share a commitment to empowering and enriching young people’s lives by building skills and social capital.
“The Possible Zone has had the privilege of working with Kevin for many years, since we first began partnering with Boston Public Schools,” says Becky Levin, TPZ Executive Director and Co-Founder. “We know that talent and potential are distributed equally among America’s youth, but opportunity and the dynamic learning experiences that help youth thrive are not. Kevin has committed his life to breaking down barriers and creating more opportunities for young people to develop and thrive through supportive and innovative educational programming. We are proud to have him share his expertise, insights, and passion as a member of our Board of Directors.”
Kevin stepped into the role of Principal of Brockton High School in January 2023, during a time of unrest within the school; he has been working to strengthen the school culture and systems to ensure safe, meaningful experiences for all the students and staff. Kevin previously served as Assistant Superintendent of Secondary Schools for Boston Public Schools, was Executive Director at Madison Park Technical Vocational High School (when he first collaborated with TPZ), was Director of School Design and Programming at the Hartford Public Schools, and was principal of Springfield’s high school, middle school and elementary schools. He earned his Master’s in Education Administration from Westfield State College and an Education Specialist, Children, Family & Schools Certificate from UMass Amherst.
