Timothy Nystrand
Senior Director of Learning Systems
Tim Nystrand has dedicated over 14 years to education, focusing on curriculum development, student achievement, and educational technology. Originally from Madison, WI, his passion for teaching was ignited as an AmeriCorps member with City Year in Chicago. After teaching physics, engineering, and ESL in Chicago and Boston Public Schools, Tim now serves as the Senior Director of Learning Systems at TPZ. In this role, he leads TPZ’s Personalized Learning Strategy, creating dynamic, student-centric ecosystems tailored to each learner’s unique strengths. Tim directs the development of innovative digital tools like the mobile Navigator App and Competency Progression Trackers, thoughtfully integrating AI to serve as a supportive connective tissue that enhances student agency and makes learning visible.
Outside of work, Tim enjoys biking, cooking, and traveling – interests that have historically helped him connect with learners, such as when he led a high school summer bike maintenance program. Above all, he loves spending time with his wife, Susie, and is a proud “girl dad” to his two daughters, Aya and Noor.
