Jeff Branson

Senior Director of Steam Education & Partnerships

Jeff helps us continuously integrate computer science into our core program, as well as our Deep Dives. Jeff works closely with Gus in integrating emerging technology (AI and VR/AR) into our work with students and each other, as well as contributing to our knowledge management efforts. Jeff is an engineer and creative technologist working across multiple domains in engineering and education, with deep experience in how to integrate computational thinking into curricula for students, and how to scale learning environments nationally. Jeff was a founding member of the Department of Education at SparkFun Electronics and has taught in a wide range of university, secondary education, and teacher PD settings. One of Jeff’s favorite projects is NASA Space Camp, scaled nationally, a dive into electronics, computer science, data science, and maker-practice all wrapped in a student-driven trip to the edge of space. Jeff comes to us after having worked with Janet on a number of projects centered on making and computer science (including Space Camp), and brings together varied engineering and pedagogical perspectives in his practice and seeks to address diversity and sustainability as key factors in engineering and it’s culture. When he’s not tinkering with STEAM, Jeff is always learning something new — his latest obsession is roller skating and roller dance.
